What Matters
The Meridians symposium at Smith College is all about “celebrating women of color feminist scholarship, art, and activism of the ’80s and ’90s to inspire and embolden us in precarious times.” This season’s keynote speakers are dual forces to be reckoned with: social justice organizer and educator Janaya Khan and Black Alliance for Just Immigration director Opal Tometi. Together, they are co-founders of the Black Lives Matter movement. Joined by moderator Barbara Ransby, a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Khan and Tometi will speak and take questions on feminism, race, and transnationalism.
Black Lives Matter — A Dialogue on the Movement: Friday, 8 p.m. Free. John M. Greene Hall, Smith College, 60 Elm St., Northampton. (413) 585-2190, [email protected].
