It’s Friday night, we’re in the middle of March Madness, and the beer is flowing because of St. Patrick’s day. What more could one ask for? Some live music might fit the bill. For the fans that made it out to the Riverside Theater for the twang of some good ol’ fashion bluegrass, Greensky Bluegrass was the reason for the night. Plus, they brought along Cris Jacobs as support to make a great holiday show.

Greensky Bluegrass opened up their show up with “The Four,” and the vocals were spot on for this set-opening tune. While the rest of the first set followed with slower, more ballad-esque songs, for the second set, Greensky amped up the energy. During the second set, they also brought out Cris Jacobs for a stellar rendition of “Simply Irresistible.” However, perhaps the highlight of the night came in “Frederico,” a stretched out rendition during which the band members alluded to St. Patrick’s Day by asking the crowd how lucky they would get.

Shows such as last night only highlight Greensky Bluegrass’s upward trajectory. As their music continues to evolve and push the limits of contemporary bluegrass, their notoriety on the scene only grows. The band packed the Riverside Theater, and Greensky show Milwaukee that the sky’s the limit for them. Greensky Bluegrass will continue their spring tour tonight in St. Paul, Minnesota, before heading out west. You can check out a setlist from last night’s show below, along with a gallery of photos, courtesy of Daniel Ojeda Photography.
