What can one say? If you have seen them you know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, go and find out. EITS from Austin, TX is a post-rock powerhouse. The amount of energy they put into their concerts would rival that of some punk shows I’ve seen in the past.
In a world of flashy light shows and computer graphics that fill an entire room of most modern venues, EITS decides to take it in a different direction: a bare minimum of lights with zero effects. They really put themselves on the line to let their music speak for them, and they pulled it off flawlessly. The venue itself is a major player in the experience set forth by EITS. The Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY is a magical and historic venue. One of my absolute favorite places to see a concert on a smaller scale. The openness of the room makes it feel like the capacity it double what it actually is and the acoustics of the room are second to none.

Coming right out of the gate with the song “The Birth and Death of the Day” really let you know who was in charge. The power and emotion these guys play with was a revelation for me as a musician. Their stage presence let you know early on that at that moment there was no other place that EITS would rather be and they weren’t afraid to show it.They also take a different approach to their shows by playing one solid set. 10 songs without an encore. As this may not be the norm in the circles that I usually run in, it did make the show like something I’ve never seen as a headliner. However, what is the norm? Who set the rules on how a show should be played? These guys set themselves apart in just about every way a band could. The way they play. The style of music. The minimal light show. They took away the cookie-cutter aspect of most live performance and made it into a show to remember.
For me personally, between the minimal lights, the incendiary sound, and a solid setlist with no encore, I may have to rethink my methods of performance. These guys exploded from the stage. Played a very solid set and didn’t leave me wanting. They are now on my radar as a must-see band anytime they are in my area.
