Green Scene

Chill out and share the love at Greenfield’s first-annual Greenfest this week, a full evening of free music on — you guessed it — 4/20. With the exception of guest speaker Dick Evans, who served as chair of the Yes on 4 Campaign (aka the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol in Massachusetts), it’s non-stop music. Headlining is the Funky Dawgz Brass Band (pictured),  playing a mix of traditional New Orleans R&B, original music, and today’s top hits with a funky brass twist.

Those high-energy horns are complemented by Northampton’s psych-fusion quartet Mammal Dap — a band that interweaves hypnotic beats with pumping bass, lush pads, and soaring hooks. Balancing a deep love of nostalgic tones with a digital-age sensibility, Mammal Dap’s sound evokes the aesthetics of Bonobo, Flying Lotus, and Tycho. They’re joined by psychadelic rock group Outer Stylie and the up-and-coming NYC act White Cliffs.

Then there’s The Medicinal Purpose, a soulful and bluesy rock and roll act, as well as The Diamondstones, a five-piece Pioneer Valley group that takes a classic rock base and builds off that using jazz, folk, funk, blues, and psychedelia influences. Plus: UMass basement band Solo Sexx — “serving rude and riotous Salt-n-Pepa-meets-Buzzcocks-meets-Shangri Las realness since 2008” — and Pinedrop, an acoustic folk trio out of Brattleboro.

The Enthusiast presents Greenfest 2017: Thursday, April 20, 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Free admission; all ages. The Arts Block, 289 Main St., Greenfield. (413) 774-0150, theartsblock.com.
