Australia’s very own music hall of fame, the Australian Music Vault, is finally set to open next month in Melbourne.
The project is helmed by Molly Meldrum, Kylie Minogue and Mushroom Records/Frontier Touring founder Michael Gudinski, and was announced almost a year ago.
The Australian Music Vault has been financially backed by the Victorian Government and will be hosted by the Victorian Arts Centre.
As Newscorp reports, it has now been announced that the new, permanent exhibition will open on Tuesday 19th December.
“We’ve been fighting to make this happen for a long, long time, so it’s brilliant it’s finally about to open,” said Molly Meldrum.
“We’ve got a lot of sporting tributes here, so it’s about time there was one celebrating Australian music. The best thing is that it’s free, so anyone can come.
“Obviously it’s going to have items from some of the best Australian artists of the past and the present, but I feel like it will inspire people. I want people to walk in, take it all in and go ‘OK, these people did that, now what can I do?’”
The exhibition will reportedly contain items donated from a stack of Australian legends including Minogue, Angus Young, Paul Kelly, INXS, Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel, Tina Arena, Olivia Newton-John, Nick Cave, The Seekers, Sherbert, John Farnham and many more.
