PREMIERE: Estère’s ‘Grandmother’ Video Is An Intimate, Introspective Visual

Rising Kiwi artist Estère has gifted us the moving video for her deeply personal track ‘Grandmother’.

‘Grandmother’ is the second single off her forthcoming mini-album MY DESIGN and it’s a dedication to her Grandmother who she is named after but never met.

The stunning video was shot along Cape Town peninsula at Betty’s Bay and features Author, Woman’s Rights Ambassador and UN Representative Sindiwe Magona who stars as Estere’s grandmother in the video.

Estère lives in New Zealand but her family is originally from Cameroon in West Africa. This video gave her an opportunity to go back to Africa to, “connect to aspects of my identity and history,” as she told us.

“This song is about the relationship between myself and my Grandmother who I am named after but never got to meet. It was amazing to feel such an immediate connection with [Magona].”

Estère says making the video was a “deeply enriching” and “humbling experience”, all of which is beautifully conveyed in the raw video that focusses solely on the emotion of Estère and Magona with the South African backdrop.
