Queen Biopic Director Bryan Singer Has Been Fired

138

The director of Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, Bryan Singer, has been fired from the role after the production was halted due to his “unexpected unavailability”.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox says, “Bryan Singer is no longer the director of Bohemian Rhapsody.”

The decision comes after Singer’s absence led the film — which stars Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury — to stop production on 1st December.

Malek is said to have complained to 20th Century Fox about Singer’s behaviour, and to have also been involved in an argument with Singer in which Singer allegedly threw an object.

A source has also told The Hollywood Reporter that actor Tom Hollander, who plays Queen’s manager Jim Beach, briefly quit the film to due Singer’s behaviour, but was later convinced to return.

A new director is expected to be named later this week. We’ve already had a number of sneak peeks of Malek in the role of Freddie Mercury, and the film is due to hit cinemas on 25th December, 2018.

Meanwhile, Queen are scheduled to tour Australia in 2018 with singer Adam Lambert.
