Triple M has followed through on its pledge to spend Australia Day counting down its own bastardised version of Triple J’s Hottest 100, ‘The Ozzest 100’.
And much like the countless backyard BBQ’s it soundtracked, the countdown was a total sausagefest.
To absolutely no one’s surprise, ‘Khe Sanh’ by Cold Chisel came in at #1, while the dad rockin’ top five was rounded out by Men at Work’s ‘Down Under’, Barnsey again with ‘Working Class Man’, Icehouse at #4 with ‘Great Southern Land’ and AC/DC’s ‘Long Way To The Top’ at #5.
Also in news that will shock approximately no one, Acca Dacca featured in the M’s “perfect Australia Day soundtrack” no less than 7 times, which was incidentally also the same number of times that women of any kind made an appearance.
As one Twitter user pointed out, 3 of those 7 times were thanks to songs by the Divinyls.
Of the 100 songs in @TripleMMelb‘s #Ozzest100 only 7 of the songs featured female performers. 3 of those songs were by The Divinyls. https://t.co/6yMrNRvNqu

Srsly, not even any Baby Animals, The Superjesus or Spiderbait???? Rude.
Meanwhile, despite their best efforts to hijack the countdown, A.B. Original’s change-the-date anthem ‘January 26’ did not end up getting a Guernsey.
ICYMI: Triple M got savaged (by both punters and its own jocks) for the decision to cash-in on the removal of triple j’s Hottest 100 from the contentious date of January 26th with the whole ‘Ozzest 100’ thing, after the ABC youth station made the decision to shift their much-frothed countdown to a less politically charged day that all Aussies could enjoy.
The long-awaited decision by triple j was made following a long public consultation process and marked a landmark show of support for Indigenous Australians, who’ve long associated January 26th with the trauma of the British invasion and the massacres and cultural genocide it engendered, but the M’s still nonetheless mocked the J’s for robbing ‘Straya of its annual barbie soundtrack.
“So, the taxpayer funded FM has decided that there’ll be no soundtrack for Australia Day,” they wrote.
“Let’s face it, that’s usually full of hipsters or kids making music on a Mac. At Triple M, we’re going to give you what you’ve asked for. The perfect Australia Day soundtrack.”
However, despite the massive initial backlash, the social media response to Triple M’s countdown since it aired has been fairly meh. The biggest complaint seems to be that Daryl Braithwaite’s ‘The Horses’ didn’t chart higher:
