Earlier today it emerged that Kirin J Callinan had been quietly removed from the Laneway Festival 2018 poster, with zero explanation.
Laneway Festival is yet to offer an explanation as to why he was removed but Callinan himself has now issued a statement on social media.
“To all the kind & inquisitive folk that’a bin reachin out re Laneway ~ I appreciate your concern & I’ll address this in time, you have my word,” he wrote in an open-letter posted on his Instagram story.
“As it stands, I will no longer be performing at Laneway this year.”
Callinan was added to the lineup in November just a day after he caused controversy by flashing his penis on the ARIA Awards red carpet.
triple j says that it understands his removal from the festival is due to the ARIA Awards incident. Music Feeds has contacted Callinan for comment.
Laneway Festival is due to start in early February, hitting Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Fremantle.
