Homegrown Female-Fronted Heavy Bands & Skaters Unite For Badass Charity Gig

At a time when sexism in the Aussie music industry is more of a powderkeg issue than ever before, Melbourne alternative nightclub Bang! is installing a half-pipe and throwing a bitchin’ party to shine a spotlight on some of the insanely talented dudettes of the scene.

Their ‘Femme Fatale’ event, going down on Saturday 24th February, will gather an epic lineup of “all femme bands, DJs, staff, skaters and bladers” with the live music bill boasting some of the fiercest female-fronted bands in the whole damn country.

UNIFY Gathering and BIGSOUND alumni Drown This City and Pagan head up the roster, with support from Sydney rap-rock mutants RedHook and Melbourne indie rockers Body Parts.

Meanwhile, some of Melbourne’s best lady skaters and bladers will be pulling off demos on the Rampfest indoor skate half-pipe, which will be in the house for one night only.

“Femme Fatale is an event organised by women in the music industry aimed at showcasing the amazing talent of women/trans/femme/queer across the board,” the official Femme Fatale Facebook event reads. “Encouraging and empowering those who for so long haven’t had a voice to be seen and heard.”

There’ll be a temporary tattoo stall supporting mental health in the music industry thanks to Don’t Fret Club, and a vegan bake sale with all proceeds going to Girls Rock Melbourne, a not-for-profit organisation that aims to empower female, trans and gender non-binary youth in music.

A portion of proceeds from the night will also be donated to this awesome charity.

A badass party, celebrating some of the scene’s fiercest females, all for a good cause?

What’s not to love.
