John Kadlecik, as many readers of this site know- is a singer, songwriter, and musician who can play most string instrument. His history with Furthur and as an original co-founder of the group Dark Star Orchestra is well known. Kadlecik has been performing improvisationally-oriented shows regularly since the late 1980’s and touring nationally for the last 20 years. His work also includes several studio releases of original music, and he is currently touring with his own group, The John Kadlecik Band. Kadlecik brings 30 years’ experience crafting experimental guitar sounds and still discovers new ones every show.
This week the band will begin their winter tour which will touch on multiple shows in Colorado and extend into Chicago and Indianapolis before regrouping and coming back for a run to the Southeast in March. In between there are shows with Kadlecik appearing with Melvin Seals and JGB performing both a solo set and perhaps sitting in with JGB.
The John Kadlecik Band (JKB for short) is a mix of his Kadlecik’s well known musical friends playing both original music and fan favorites in a format that is a sheer pleasure for festival audiences. The current lineup is Jay Lane on drums, Benjie Porecki on keys and newcomer Wavy Dave Burlingame on bass (well known from his touring days with Cornmeal.)
Kadlecik is writing new songs and performing old original songs dating as far back as the early 1990’s. There’s something for everyone at a JKB show! A live album is in the works and while fans will have to wait for the official announcement regarding the album, they can find a dynamic “live album” streaming on Soundcloud, and a YouTube channel has recently been launched as well.
John Kadlecik also tours with a solo show dubbed “John Kadlecik’s Acousti’Lectric,” extending into complete one-man-Dead-band live-looped rave-ups on songs like “Fire on the Mountain,” “Throwing Stones,” and “Blow Away.” The performance occasionally dips into EDM-flavored drum and space territory. However, don’t expect a DJ- Kadlecik’s shows are always live-looped, no pre-recorded tracks here.

On top of all this, Kadlecik also is part of The Golden Gate Wingmen, a band consisting of Kadlecik on guitar and vocals, Reed Mathis (Electric Beethoven, Billy and the Kids, Tea Leaf Green, Jacob Fred’s Jazz Odyssey) on bass and vocals, Jay Lane (Furthur, Ratdog, Primus, and many others) on drums and microphone, and Jeff Chimenti (GD50, Furthur, Ratdog, Dead and Company) on keys and vocals. The band only plays a rare dozen shows a year and has become one of the most fiercely improvisational bands on the planet.
