While performing his set on Saturday Night Live this weekend, Childish Gambino simultaneously dropped a new track, ‘This Is America’, along with an accompanying music video.
The song strays away from the funk vibe of 2016’s “Awaken, My Love!” and returns to the hard-hitting, hip-hop roots that Gambino came up on.
The video, directed by Hiro Murai, features a shirtless Gambino walking and dancing through a warehouse, shooting a few people and making a very loud and very clear political statement. In the last seconds of the main clip, you can also spot a sneaky SZA sitting against one of the cars.
No word yet on whether this is our first taste of that “last Gambino album” he told us about, but it’s almost a sure bet he’ll be performing it at his PHAROS festival in New Zealand this November.
