The Karina Rykman Experiment To Team Up With Robert Walter & Dave Harrington At Brooklyn Comes Alive

157

Karina Rykman is bringing her improvisational Experiment to Brooklyn Comes Alive! The badass 24-year-old bassist, known for her musicianship and infectious energy in Marco Benevento‘s touring band, has been making some waves of her own in the New York City music scene, with her Karina Rykman Experiment popping up at several area venues over the past year. On September 29th, Karina will bring the Experiment to the Williamsburg, Brooklyn event for an exciting performance featuring several impressive guest musicians.

With the Karina Rykman Experiment, fans can expect the fierce bassist to lead the way, as her bandmates follow into a bountiful improvisational space, textured with experimental tone and grooves. Rykman herself leads the charge, with drummer Chris Corsico pushing grooves into uncharted territory while Adam November adds layer-upon-layer of effects-laden guitar.

Renowned keyboardist Robert Walter–leader of his 20th Congress, member of Mike Gordon band, and founding member of the seminal jam-funk act the Greyboy Allstars–will be on hand to add some magic as a special guest. Local multi-instrumentalist and improvisation-guru Dave Harrington, an artist-at-large at this year’s BCA, is also scheduled to appear with the Karina Rykman Experiment. Harrington is a former member of Darkside, which featured him and Nicholas Jaar, and also often plays with Joe Russo, occasionally performing together as an experimental duo. Harrington blurs genres, blending sounds in a unique way that makes him one of the more exciting and unpredictable players on the scene.

The Karina Rykman Experiment recently fronted a Joe Russo’s Almost Dead afterparty in New York City, with Rykman recruiting Wilco‘s Nels Cline and saxophone virtuoso Skerik as featured special guests. The band wowed the packed crowd with hours of deep and delicate improvisation, and Rykman is excited to bring that loose and focused approach to her set at Brooklyn Comes Alive.

As Karina Rykman explained to us,

I’m so stoked for Brooklyn Comes Alive! I love when you can wander in and out of the clubs all day and evening, and be sure you’re going to see some wildly unique collaborations with spectacular players really stretching out and getting into new musical territory with different people. It’s such a cool thing that happens right here in my hometown, and I’m honored to be a part of it this year!
