Guitarist Dickey Betts underwent brain surgery today following an accident at his home earlier the week. Manager David Spero shared the good news that the surgery was successful, as now the co-founding member of The Allman Brothers Band begins his recovery.

“Dickey Betts and his family want everyone to know that his surgery was a success,” Spero told the Herald-Tribune in a statement. “The outpouring of support from all over the world has been overwhelming and amazing. We are so appreciative. Thank you all so much for your wonderful thoughts and prayers. We will keep you updated.”

Betts was playing with his dog in the backyard of his Sarasota, Florida home on Monday night when he tripped and fell as per the Herald-Tribune. The Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer hit his head which led to bleeding in his brain. The aim of today’s surgery was to relieve pressure in his head. Dickey recently began a comeback following a multi-year retirement. Shows scheduled for November have been postponed indefinitely while the 74-year-old guitarist recovers.
