Nine Inch Nails Fit Rarities Into North American Tour Opener

The North American portion of Nine Inch Nails‘ Cold And Black And Infinite Tour began on Thursday night at Comerica Theatre in Phoenix. Nine Inch Nails surprised fans by opening the evening with a complete performance of their 1992 EP Broken including a number of songs the band hadn’t played live in years.

Trent Reznor & Co. took the stage to “Pinion” before lighting into “Wish.” Last night’s performance of Broken included NIN’s first live versions of “Last” since 2009, “Help Me I Am In Hell” since 2013, “Happiness Is Slavery” since 1995 and “Physical (You’re So)” since 2009 as per Setlist.FM. The complete performance of Broken ended with the revival of “Suck,” a song written by Pigface.

Nine Inch Nails followed the shocking start to the show with more familiar material. The group’s recently released Bad Witch LP was represented by “Ahead Of Ourselves” and “Shit Mirror.” Last night’s concert also included the live debut of Add Violence track “This Isn’t The Place,” which was followed by a cover of David Bowie’s “I’m Afraid Of Americans.” Reznor also led the group through three songs from 1994’s The Downward Spiral: “Hurt,” “March Of The Pigs” and “Reptile.”

Thursday’s show was broken into an 18-song main set and encore of “Less Than,” “The Day The World Went Away” and “Hurt.” Watch a series of fan-shot videos captured by Melissa Sadowski:
