David Bowie’s Legendary Glastonbury 2000 Concert Set For Full Release In November

121

In 2000, David Bowie headlined the globally renowned Glastonbury Festival, marking what may be one of the best music sets the famed festival has ever seen. The annual five-day festival of contemporary performing arts takes place near Pilton, Somerset, England, and is regarded as the largest greenfield festival in the world. Though the festival also hosts dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret, and other arts, Glastonbury is best known for its high-caliber music lineup each year, which has consistently drawn the world’s top music acts to its stages.

On November 30th, Parlophone Records, BBC Studios, and Glastonbury Festivals Ltd. will release David Bowie Glastonbury 2000, on 2 CD/DVD, 3 LP, 2 CD formats, in both standard and high-resolution digital formats. The film documents Bowie’s legendary Sunday night headlining performance on June 25th, 2000, at one of the most famous festivals on earth. The package will include the full 21-song greatest-hits set and, for the first time, a DVD of the entire David Bowie show (only 37 minutes of which has ever been broadcast on TV).

All formats will feature David’s diary, originally written for Time Out to document his preparation for the show in his own unrivaled Bowie-esque. Read an excerpt from his journal via the official press release: “As of 1990, I got through the rest of the 20th century without having to do a big hits show. Yes, yes, I know I did four or five hits on the later shows but I held out pretty well I thought…big, well-known songs will litter the field at Glastonbury this year. Well, with a couple of quirks of course.”

In addition to newly mastered audio and upgraded video, David Bowie Glastonbury 2000 features new artwork from Jonathan Barnbrook (who worked with Bowie on the sleeves for Heathen, The Next Day and Blackstar) as well as notes from author and Bowie fan Caitlin Moran, who reviewed the show for The New York Times.

You can watch David Bowie’s performance of “Heroes”, from the previously televised 37 minutes of his Glastonbury Festival performance below:
