In a recent blog post in support of Cassette Store Day, Third Man Records co-founder and White Stripes archivist Ben Blackwell dropped the news that he had unexpectedly stumbled upon a cassette from 1997 that contained an undocumented Jack White appearance. In the lengthy piece Blackwell penned for Discogs entitled Why Cassettes Are The New 45s, he shared the news that White had contributed vocals to a cover of Blondie’s “One Way Or Another.”

According to the post, White worked as a session engineer to help a band called 400 Pounds of Punk record a cassette in a makeshift home studio at 1203 Ferdinand Street in Southwest Detroit. The five-song EP that Blackwell found in his basement features White singing the song from Blondie’s 1978 album Parallel Lines that he is calling, “the rarest physical release of a Jack White performance…I doubt more than a half-dozen people even knew about it.” Listen to White’s contribution to the cover of Blondie’s “One Way Or Another” below:

In additional Jack White news, the singer-guitarist has added a pair of new shows to his tour in support of Boarding House Reach. White will appear at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre on November 17 and Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom on November 19. Tickets go on sale to the public this Friday, October 12th at 11 a.m. local time. A limited amount of pre-sale tickets will be available to Third Man Vault members starting at 10 a.m. local time on Thursday, October 11th.
