Jim James Performs Solo On NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Series [Watch]

Jim James stopped by NPR Music to perform in their Tiny Desk Concert video series. The My Morning Jacket frontman delivered three songs in the office space, showcasing his impressive solo work and vast catalog of crowd-pleasing tunes.

To kick things off, Jim James played a page out of My Morning Jacket’s book with a performance of “I’m Amazed” from their 2008 album, Evil Urges. Then, the singer/songwriter/guitarist delivered a beautiful version of “Same Old Lie” from his 2016 solo record, Eternally Even. The set closed with a performance of “Over and Over” from Uniform Distortion, which released earlier this year. Watch the performance below:

It’s certainly been a big year for Jim James, as he’s put all of his public attention on his solo material while giving MMJ a year off. Uniform Distortion–which got its name “because [Jim James] feels like there is this blanket distortion on society/media and the way we gather our ‘news’ and important information”–was released in June of this year, and contains 11 tracks penned by Jim James and features Floating Action bassist Seth Kauffman and drummer Dave Givan, along with LA trio Dear Lemon Trees‘ Kathleen Grace, Jamie Drake, and Leslie Stevens on backing vocals. A few months after releasing Uniform Distortion, James released an acoustic companion, Uniform Clarity.

Additionally, Jim James just wrapped up The Future Is Voting Tour with HeadCount, in which they featured six nonpartisan multi-artist shows in college towns in electoral “swing districts” in an effort to promote voter participation in the important electoral areas. To say Jim James has kept busy since taking time off from My Morning Jacket is an understatement.
