Multitalented bassist/vocalist/bandleader Thundercat has released a new single “King of the Hill”, featuring Flying Lotus and BadBadNotGood, which will appear on the forthcoming Brainfeeder X box set due out on November 16th.
Flying Lotus produced the new track “King of the Hill”, which incorporates elements of jazz, funk, and soul into the mix. “King of the Hill” starts out with a relaxing and dreamy instrumental, before the music hits, and then is followed by Thundercat’s silky-smooth vocals. As the the soothing track approaches the song’s chorus, the musicians exclaim, “The king of the castle, the king of the hill, wasting his time, chasing cheap thrills.”
As Rolling Stone reports, the 36-track Brainfeeder X compilation celebrates the Flying Lotus-founded label’s 10th anniversary. The two-volume box set offers a label retrospective in the first volume, which features previously released highlights from the label. The second volume includes 22 new and unreleased songs from the label’s artist roster. The compilation will be available as a 4-LP vinyl box set as well as in 2-CD and digital formats.
