Today, Maurice ‘Mobetta’ Brown has announced a month-long residency at the legendary Blue Note in New York City, New York. Every Saturday in November, Maurice Brown and Soul’d U Out + Friends will feature current projects and collaborators during the late-night slot, starting at 12:30 am (11/3, 11/10, 11/17, 11/24). Just as Maurice is known to sit-in with a variety of talented artists in random scenarios in the past, you never know who he’ll bring up on his own stage. The trumpeter has been on the scene for a number of years now, with an admirable callsheet of acts he’s worked with such as Wyclef Jean, Santana, John Legend, Florence + The Machine, Santigold, and so many more. His rise to recognition among music makers, listeners, and critics alike comes from mentorship by the iconic Wynton Marsalis. With such wisdom in the works, it was inevitable Brown would be able to compose a variety of creative endeavors for himself as well as others, notably the arrangement for the horns section of the Tedeschi Trucks Band for their Grammy award-winning album Revelator.
Maurice Brown is still riding the high from his most recent solo album, The Mood. Breaking into his own soul substance, the anticipation behind his 2017 album The Mood was astronomical amongst music enthusiasts alike. This jazz juggernaut, affectionately known as “Mobetta,” has been generous with his gift for years. With so much experience and influence under his trumpeting, rapping, and freestyling belt, he’s truly a gumbo of surprises.
