At the end of SeptemberPhil Lesh announced his plans for a three-night Halloween run at Port Chester, New York’s beloved rock palace, The Capitol Theatre. Today, the Grateful Dead bassist has further expanded on the run’s star-studded lineup, announcing that fan-favorite multi-instrumentalist and bandleader Karl Denson will join the band on November 1st for the first of two performances with Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band featuring Widespread Panic guitarist Jimmy Herring.

Karl Denson and Phil Lesh have a long-standing history of collaboration. The Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe bandleader has frequently joined Phil Lesh as one of his rotating “Friends” for his ongoing solo project, Phil Lesh & Friends. Last year, Denson signed on for a two-night run with Phil Lesh & Friends at The Capitol Theatre, which also featured the likes of Robert RandolphJackie GreeneNeal CasalJason Crosby, and others. However, as recently as July, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe joined the Grateful Dead icon at his own Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, California for a co-headlined outdoor performance, which also saw Denson collaborate with Lesh, Eric KrasnoStu AllenHolly BowlingJohn MoloJennifer Hartswick, and Natalie Cressman as Phil & Friends.

With Karl Denson on deck, Phil Lesh’s upcoming run is shaping up to be one of the premier Halloween events on the East Coast. On the night of Halloween, October 31st, a three-set celebration will take place, kicking off with GEM, the trio whose name is derived from the first initials of its members: Midnight North’s Grahame Lesh and Elliott Peck and Twiddle’s Mihali Savoulidis. Then, Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band will perform a set together before the evening is closed out by the debut of Phil Lesh and Twiddle‘s collaborative project, Phiddle. For the following two nights, on November 1st and 2nd, Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band will perform together with Widespread Panic’s Jimmy Herring on guitar, while Karl Denson will join the band on November 1st, as well.

The All Hallows Eve collaborations are the latest products of a long-running creative relationship between Phil Lesh, his son Grahame’s band, Midnight North, and Twiddle. Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band (which features Grahame), Midnight North, and Twiddle recently mounted a series of multi-band performances under the billing “Unbroken Train.” The bands intermingled at various points before that as well, with Midnight North frequently joining Twiddle as support on tour and individual members of the respective bands sitting in with the others on several occasions.

Tickets for all three nights of Phil Lesh’s upcoming collaborative Halloween run at The Capitol Theatre are currently available. For more information and ticketing, head here.
