Pigeons Playing Ping Pong Debut John Mayer Cover In Los Angeles

161

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong had a big weekend in California. The electro-funk quartet played a pair of shows at Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles on Thursday and Friday night as well as a guest-filled concert at The Regency Ballroom in San Francisco on Saturday. PPPP’s opening night in Los Angeles saw the band honor John Mayer with a cover of his latest single.

Guitarist Greg Ormont of Pigeons Playing Ping Pong had the opportunity to meet Mayer at the recent Lockn’ Festival in a scene that was photographed and turned into a meme. The four-piece act fit a take on John Mayer’s “New Light” into their own “Drunk People” during their marathon set in L.A. on Thursday. Ormont told the crowd the following about the cover debut, “We’ve never played that before. We were playing it for our buddy John who put out a new song called ‘New Light’ that just went gold today.” Listen to audio of PPPP’s October 4th show in Los Angeles featuring the John Mayer cover taped by wharfratjoe:
