Tedeschi Trucks Band To Play New York City & Chicago Residencies Each Year Through 2022

122

The Tedeschi Trucks Band played their fourth show of a six-night residency at the Beacon Theatre in New York City last night. While this year’s TTB run at the Beacon will end on Saturday, the tradition will continue for at least the next four years. Billboard confirmed the Beacon and the Chicago Theatre will host the 12-piece outfit for residencies each year through 2022.

Both the Beacon Theatre and Chicago Theatre are run by the Madison Square Garden Company. The two-city residency will include six October TTB shows at the Beacon and “several” January performances at the Chicago Theatre. In 2019, the Tedeschi Trucks Band will play the Windy City venue on January 18, 19, 25 and 26. “It’s nice to settle into a venue for a few nights, although we know there’s a portion of the audience that comes out for multiple shows, so we have to dig deep into the catalog,” Derek told Billboard. “Musically it’s so much more rewarding to set up for multiple dates at a place where you can get comfortable with the sound of the room and when you’re not playing, relax a little bit and actually experience where ever you are at the moment.”

Derek was no stranger to the Beacon even before the TTB started their annual runs at the venue in 2011. Trucks joined The Allman Brothers Band in 1999, a group that played the Upper West Side theater 238 times between 1989 and 2014. “I’ve been in the same rooms for 20 years now. When my son was only 10 days old, he was at the Beacon Theater and it very much feels like a home away from home with a lot of the crew and the union guys here at the Beacon for the whole run,” Trucks added. “It’s always nice to walk back in the door and see the familiar faces and hit that stage where so much magic has been made.”

Last night’s Tedeschi Trucks Band concert at the Beacon included the debut of a new original entitled “Still Your Mind.” Watch fan-shot video of the premiere captured by Sean Roche:
