Aqueous Brings Color Wheel Tour To Philly

186

Buffalo, NY-based Aqueous are hitting the road hard this fall in support of their latest release Color Wheel. Saturday, November 3 saw the groove rockers headline The Foundry in Philadelphia, PA with support from Mungion.

The first set was bookended by two fan favorites, “Second Sight” and “Origami,” with the latter containing a particularity incendiary jam not to be missed (protip: check this show and others out on nugs.net). In between was plenty of action to keep the faithful grooving including old school favorite “Timmy’s Blades” (just the 3rd time played in 2018), a cover of Steely Dan’s “Josie” (3rd time played since 2015) and two new tracks showcasing different sides of Aqueous. That would be “Split the Difference,” their most EDM-influenced track, and “Good Enough,” with its classic Beatles vibe and lyrics that resonate.

After a quick break, Aqueous was back with more genre defying madness opening with “Realize Your Light,” another Color Wheel track that gives Dave Loss a chance to showcase his vocal chops. Big jams took center stage throughout the five-song set, even the Elton John classic “Benny and the Jets” achieved liftoff before it seamlessly segued into “Skyway.” For the encore, Justin Reckamp from Mungion joined the quartet for some dueling guitar action with Mike Gantzer as they took 20/20 for a spin.

Opening the show was Chicago’s Mungion, touring in support of their own new release Ferris Wheel’s Day Off,  which proved to be a perfect one-two punch when paired with the headliners. This was the last of an eight show run with Aqueous but expect to hear lots more from these guys in the future.
