Bob Weir And Wolf Bros Welcome John Kadlecik, Debut “Artificial Flowers” Cover In D.C.

115

On Monday night, November 12th, Bob Weir and Wolf Bros continued their inaugural tour with a stop at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. As has become a trend on this tour, Bob WeirJay Lane, and Don Was welcomed a special guest to join them in D.C.—Furthur guitarist John Kadlecik.

The first set got the evening moving with a mix of live Grateful Dead favorites (“Jack Straw”, “Loser”, “Me and My Uncle”, “West L.A. Fadeaway”, “U.S. Blues”); solo Bobby tunes (Bobby & The Midnites‘ “Josephine”, Blue Mountain‘s “Lay My Lily Down”); and covers like Merle Haggard‘s “Mama Tried” and Donovan‘s “Sunshine Superman”.

To start set two, Bob Weir and Wolf Bros delivered their first-ever rendition of Bobby Darin‘s sonically peppy yet thematically dark “Artificial Flowers”. This also marked the first time Weir played the vocal standard since a solo acoustic performance in Upper Darby, PA in 2012. After a run through “Black-Throated Wind”, the band welcomed John Kadlecik to the stage for a rendition of “Playing In The Band”. Kadlecik stuck around for a performance of “Scarlet Begonias” before leaving the core Wolf Bros trio onstage to perform RatDog‘s “Two Djinn”, the Grateful Dead classic “I Need A Miracle”, and Bob Dylan‘s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall”. Finally, a spirited rendition of “Throwing Stones” capped the evening’s second set.

When the band returned to the stage for their encore, they once again had John Kadlecik in tow. After easing into a reprise of the “Playing In The Band” that brought Kadlecik into the fold during set two, the foursome tackled a sing-along rendition of “Touch of Grey” to send the audience home satisfied.

Bob Weir and Wolf Bros tour continues tonight, Tuesday, November 13th, at The Fillmore in Philadelphia, PA. For a full list of the remaining Bob Weir and Wolf Bros tour dates, head to Bobby’s website here.
