Foo Fighters, System Of A Down, Disturbed Lead Inaugural Sonic Temple Festival Lineup

The inaugural Sonic Temple Festival will replace Columbus, Ohio’s long-running Rock On The Range when it sets up shop for its first year at MAPFRE Stadium in 2019. The new hard rock festival announced its lineup on Monday morning, and is scheduled take place at the Columbus stadium on May 17th, 18th, and 19th of next spring with a lineup featuring Foo Fighters, System of a Down and Disturbed as the first year headliners.

The new festival is being produced by Danny Wimmer Presents, the same promotion company in charge of putting together similar hard rock events around the country, including Louisville’s Hometown Rising and Louder Than Life festivals, Fort Lauderdale’s Fort Rock, and Rock on the Range, which had been one of the prime midwestern summer rock events in the Ohio city since launching back in 2007. Other acts featured on the new festival’s 2019 poster include Bring Me The Horizon, Lamb of God, Joan Jett and The BlackheartsTom MorelloThe Cult, The Hives, Black Label Society, The Struts, and even New York rapper Action Bronson, surprisingly. The full lineup can be referenced in the event’s official poster seen below.

Similar to how events like Bonnaroo curate a strong non-musical lineup, fans at Sonic Temple can also experience comedy at the 2019 event, with Andrew Dice Clay, former Black Flag singer Henry Rollins, and Pauly Shore also scheduled to perform.

“We had to make moves to improve the experience to truly make Sonic Temple the biggest rock festival in America,” promoter Danny Wimmer added in a statement about his new venture.

At a time when there are almost too many new music festivals and lifestyle events popping up across North America every summer, it can be tough to gauge which ones will be the next success stories like LOCKN’, versus the next disasters like Karoondinha Festival or even Fyre Fest. Thankfully, the organizers of Sonic Temple already have a very strong track record of throwing a great music events in the Ohio area, as Rock On The Range drew an astounding 140,000 attendees in 2018. Those aren’t bad numbers for a rock genre that continues to find itself locked out of the top of the Billboard charts these days. However, if a new event is going to enter the highly oversaturated U.S. festival market, it does help when the lineup is curated to meet a more specific genre or audience, as opposed to simply just gathering as many pop artists as possible and hoping something sticks.

Tickets for the Sonic Temple Festival go on sale starting this Friday, November 30th, at 12 p.m. EST. Ticketing and general information of the new event can be found at the official Sonic Temple website.
