Gov’t Mule Offers Debut & Teams With Larry McCray In Michigan

206

Gov’t Mule hit the penultimate night of the fall run on Friday with a gig at 20 Monroe Live in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The jam titans delivered a two-set show that saw offer up a debut and welcome longtime friend Larry McCray for a pair of songs during their encore.

Warren Haynes & Co. would bookend their opening frame in The Wolverine State with a pair of tracks from Shout! with “World Boss” and “Funny Little Tragedy.” In between takes on the tunes from their 2013 release, the band would go with back-to-back tracks from By A Thread offering up “Steppin’ Lightly” and “Inside Outside Woman Blues.” “Lola Leave Your Light On” followed, as Mule would drop an old-school song – “Rocking Horse” – between a pair of new ones from Revolution Come…Revolution Go to close out first set.

The quartet looked to their most recent studio album to get their second stanza going delivering the live debut of “Click Track,” which was issued as a bonus song on the deluxe edition of Revolution Come…Revolution Go. “Thorns Of Life,” kicked off an extended jam-filled run. The four-piece would string the tune from their eleventh LP with two songs from their 1995 debut – “Dolphineus” and “Painted Silver Light.” A pair of bird songs followed with The Beatles’ “And Your Bird Can Sing” and the Allman Brothers Band’s “Kind Of Bird.” The southern rock and blues act would close out their set with more classic Mule pairing “Larger Than Life” and “Mule.” When Gov’t Mule returned for their encore they were joined by McCray. The guitarist assisted on “Soulshine” and blues classic “Gonna Send You Back To Georgia.” Watch fan-shot video of his sit-in below:
