Greensky Bluegrass Welcomes The Lil’ Smokies At Dallas’ Granada Theater [Audio]

142

Last night, Greensky Bluegrass wrapped up a three-night Texas run at Dallas’ Granada Theater. The Lil’ Smokies handled the evening’s opening duties, as well as being invited up by Greensky to assist on two covers, which brought the band’s second set to a close.

Greensky Bluegrass opened their first set with “Just To Lie” off of 2008’s Five Interstates, before working through covers of Billy Joel’s “Big Shot” and Townes Van Zandt’s “White Freight Liner Blues”. Paul Hoffman led his bandmates through “Miss September”, before GSBG delivered a hearty rendition of “Broke Mountain Breakdown > Booty Ain’t Nothing But A Butt > Broke Mountain Breakdown”. The infrequent “What Happened To Jim” was next, followed by “Merely Avoiding”, “33433”, and “Wings For Wheels”. Greensky Bluegrass closed their first set with a rowdy rendition of “Kerosene”, off of 2014’s If Sorrows Swim.

Following a brief set break, Greensky Bluegrass came back out to open their second set with “In Control”, before working through a cover of Joshua Davis’ “Last Winter In Copper County”. A solid pairing of “Blood Sucking F(r)iends” > “Demons” followed, before the quintet trucked on through solid takes of “Fo Sho Uh Huh”, “Like Reflections”, and “Bone Digger”. GSBG then invited up Keith Kinnear to add a helping hand on tambourine, as the band worked through “Burn Them”, before laying down “Past My Prime” and “Living Over. To close the second set, Greensky invited up The Lil’ Smokies’ Andy Dunnigan, Matt “Rev” Rieger, Jake Simpson, and Matt Cornette, as the nine mastermind musicians worked through “I’m Working On A Building” and J.J. Cale’s “After Midnight”. “Frederico” served as the night’s encore.
