John Prine, Cat Stevens & Missy Elliott Among Songwriters Hall Of Fame Nominees

John Prine, Cat Stevens, Missy Elliott, Jimmy Cliff, Jeff Lynne and Chrissie Hynde are among the nominees for the 2019 class of the Songwriters Hall Of Fame. Inductees will be named at the Songwriters Hall Of Fame Annual Induction & Awards Gala taking place June 13, 2019, in New York City.

Other nominees in the performers category include Mariah Carey, Vince Gill, Mike Love, Lloyd Price, Tommy James and Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics. Nominees in the non-performing category include Jack Tempchin, Dean Dillon, Jerry Fuller, Tom T. Hall, Roger Nichols and Dallas Austin, as well as writing partners P.F. Sloan and Steve Barri, Russell Brown and Irwin Levine, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Dean Pitchford and Michael Gore, Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham, Bobby Hart and Tommy Boyce.

Elliott is the first female hip-hop artist nominated to the Songwriters Hall Of Fame. Other hip-hop inductees include Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri. The voting period for the 2019 class of nominees ends on December 17. Eligibility for the hall requires that “a songwriter must be a published writer for a minimum of 20 years with a notable catalog of hit songs.”
