177

On Saturday, July 21 Leftover Salmon teamed with a horn section of Skerik, Jennifer Hartswick and Natalie Cressman for a set dubbed “Leftover Salmon’s Funky Brass Breakdown” at this year’s Northwest String Summit at Horning’s Hideout in North Plains, Oregon. Jamgrass.TV shared pro-shot video of the set that JamBase is pleased to premiere for this week’s Full Show Friday column.

Leftover Salmon and the horns kicked off the performance with a cover of BooZoo Chavis’ “Who Stole My Monkey” and then worked through “Show Me Something Higher” from LoS’ 2018 album Something Higher. Next came a scorching rendition of “Spanish Moon” by Little Feat and a “Keep On Truckin’” sung by Andy Thorn. The augmented version of Salmon went on to cover Sly & The Family Stone’s “If You Want Me To Stay” and then were led by Vince Herman on “Come On Baby.” From there, Leftover Salmon and the horns powered through “Funky Mountain Breakdown” and Parliament’s “Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker).” Then, “Gulf Of Mexico” and “Up On The Hill Where They Do The Boogie” brought the set to a close.
