Longtime Deerhunter bassist Josh Fauver has died, at the age of 39.

A representative for Deerhunter has confirmed the news to Pitchfork, while the band have taken to Instagram to share a photo of Fauver with the caption, “Very difficult times now.”

Fauver’s cause of death is unclear.

Fauver joined Deerhunter in 2004, after the band’s original bassist Justin Bosworth died following a skateboarding accident. He was part of the band until 2012, and appeared on several albums, including 2007’s Cryptograms and 2010’s Halcyon Digest.

He left the band in 2012, prior to the recording of Monomania.

During his career, Fauver also performed in Atlanta bands Electrosleep International and S.I.D.S, and ran a label called Army of Bad Luck.

News of Fauver’s death comes after Deerhunter announced new album Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared? last week.
