Culture and history intrinsically influences all music, and especially hip-hop, and now WA artist Flewnt is paying a beautiful homage to his own Noongar culture with new anthemic track ‘Kya Kyana.’

He has also dropped a stunning video for the song, directed by Poppy van Oorde-Grainger. It was shot in four different locations – Melbourne, Perth, Illawarra and Moree – and “created a visually evocative insight into what it’s like to be a proud young Noongar man in Perth today,” according to a statement about the clip.

The video is part of Beyond Empathy’s Excursion project, which aims to connect people to their identity and their culture through various art forms.

Flewnt, real name Josh Eggington, released a statement on how important the project has been for him both as a person and as an artist.

“It gave me the skills and confidence to not only develop my own music, but to build a career for myself in this industry by teaching other young fellas how music art and can help them embrace their culture and be proud of who they are.”
