In 2016, Railroad Earth members Tim Carbone and Andy Goessling starred in the pilot episode of the television series The Curious Musician, which aimed to display the other side of life on the road. The series never developed beyond the pilot and sadly, Andy Goessling passed away last month after a long battle with cancer. JamBase is pleased to premiere the The Curious Musician pilot episode that was put together by Dave Manzo and features narration from Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon.

The lone episode of The Curious Musician was recorded in Philadelphia on March 10, 2016. Andy and Tim performed with Railroad Earth that evening at Union Transfer. Before the show, the pair grabbed an Uber to take in some of the city’s culture. The first stop was Reading Market Terminal, where Goessling and Carbone feasted on DiNic’s famed roast pork sandwiches. Next came a trip to Vintage Instruments Of Philadelphia. The shop is owned by Fred Oster, an expert in musical instruments who appears on the PBS series Antique Roadshow. Oster gave the duo a tour of his facility and granted Andy and Tim the chance to play rare antique instruments. Goessling and Carbone discussed their experience on the way back to Union Transfer for soundcheck.

“We are so grateful that this video exists and that it can show everyone another side of Andy’s personality,” the band shared in a statement. “We will never know if this could have turned into something but wanted to share it with everyone.”

“This is sooo Andy!,” added Carbone. “His brain was like a beautiful spider web that caught all those morsels of esoteric knowledge.”
