The Disco Biscuits Dust Off Muse Cover At 1st Of 2 In Albany

230

The Disco Biscuits kicked off a two-night stand at the Palace Theatre in Albany on Friday. The venerable jamtronica act dug into their bag of tricks in the second frame for a handful of rarities and bust outs including reviving their cover of “Knights Of Cydonia.”

The Philadelphia-based band offered a four-song, seamless opening frame in New York’s state capital. The four-piece got things going with “7-11.” It marked the second time the tune has been played this year, with both used as show openers. An inverted take on the old-school classic “Above The Waves” followed. The Biscuits reached for “Minions” next, delivering the tune for just the tenth time since 2011, with “Voices Insane” bringing the set to an end.

The instrumental “Sweating Bullets” was tapped to kick off the second stanza. The Biscuits then offered up “Resurrection,” delivering the rarity for just the 30th time overall and just the 12th time since it was in heavy rotation in 2008. Setlist staple “I-Man” came ahead of the biggest surprise of the night as the quartet unearthed their cover of Muse’s “Knights Of Cyndonia” for its third-ever rendering. The track from the English band’s 2006 release Black Holes and Revelations had been sitting on the shelf since June 4, 2016. “Story Of The World” closed out the back half of the show, as The Disco Biscuits looked to one more deep cut to end the night serving up “World Is Spinning” for the fifth time since 2011.
