Twiddle Shares Pro-Shot Video Of Movie Mashup Jam From Halloween Show In Washington, D.C. [Watch]

Twiddle has shared pro-shot video of one of the highlight mashups from their movie-themed Halloween show at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. on October 26th. The Friday gig was the Vermont quartet’s first of two performances at the D.C. venue that weekend, giving fans a double dose of funky jams just in time for the arrival of the weird and spooky holiday.

One of the highlight moments from Twiddle’s Friday first that evening in D.C.—aside from Pigeons Playing Ping Pong’s Jeremy Schon sitting in during their second set—was a thrilling rendition of their own “Doinkinbonk!!!” bookended by two instrumental jams on theme songs from beloved film franchises: Harry Potter and James Bond. You can watch the pro-shot video of the impressive “Harry Potter Groove > Doinkinbonk!!! > James Bond Theme” segment from the show’s first set below.

Twiddle – “Harry Potter Groove > Doinkinbonk!!! > James Bond Theme”

The pro-shot video picks up right when the band was on its way out of “Frankenfoote” and closing in on those magically familiar notes from the world of Harry Potter. Bassist Zdenek Gubb can be seen and heard powering the groove alongside his bandmates in his Halloween kilt as they glide right into the nearly 25-minute jam. A brief pause comes shortly after the 4-minute mark before the band moves into the opening chords of fan-favorite original, “Doinkinbonk!!!”. The funk tune keeps the crowd energy at peak level as usual, but the real fun begins at the 7:45 mark with an eye-popping laser light show.

The “James Bond Theme” finally creeps in behind Gubb’s bass line just before the video’s 20-minute mark. As you can see in the clip, no one in the audience appears to leave the dance floor to get one of Bond’s trademark shaken martinis from the bar, so the band must have been doing something right! The entire jam begins to close out as Ryan Dempsey brings the audience back to reality with a fantastic piano solo while the other members of the band follow suit, trading solos.

The band also went on to include themes from Lord Of The RingsJurassic Park and Braveheart (note the kilts) into the night’s movie-themed show. The highly entertaining mashup was the perfect Halloween warmup, as Twiddle would go on to team up with the Grateful Dead‘s Phil Lesh for a special Phiddle Halloween show at New York’s Capitol Theatre a few nights later as part of Lesh’s annual Phil-O-Ween celebration.

Twiddle will continue their North American fall tour tomorrow night with a gig at the Van Buren in Phoenix, in support of SOJA. For a full list of Twiddle’s upcoming tour dates, head to the band’s website.
