Ween Covers Metallica & Fits Rarities Into St. Paul Finale

148

Ween concluded a Halloween run with the second of two shows at the Palace Theatre in St. Paul, Minnesota on Sunday night. The quintet continued to dig into their extensive repertoire for a concert that included a pair of 2018 debuts, a Metallica cover and plenty of fan favorites.

Last night’s show began with Ween’s first “Don’t Sweat It” since June. The five-piece followed “Don’t Get 2 Close (2 My Fantasy)” and “Gabrielle” by dusting off “Monique The Freak” for the first time since July 16, 2017. A nicely extended “Voodoo Lady” came next before a segment of the night that included the return of “Israel.” Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman had last led the Shinola Vol. 1 rarity back on October 15, 2016. Another surprise lied ahead as the band covered Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” for just the second time since 2001. The rest of the set was heavy on staples including “Spinal Meningitis (Got Me Down),” “Your Party” and “Pandy Fackler.” Ween brought the show and brief tour to a close with an encore of “What Deaner Was Talkin’ About” and “You Fucked Up.” Check out a series of videos captured by Monica Hampton:
