Ween Dusts Off ‘Don’t Laugh (I Love You)’ In Chicago

191

Ween celebrated Halloween at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago on Wednesday. The New Hope, Pennsylvania rockers donned bear costumes to start the night that saw them bust out the rarity “Don’t Laugh (I Love You)” for the first time in exactly a year during their lengthy 31-song concert.

Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo, Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman, bassist Dave Dreiwitz, keyboardist Glenn McClelland and drummer Claude Coleman Jr. got their evening going with the instrumental “Fiesta” from 2007’s La Cucaracha. From there the band would pepper their night with a mix of setlist staples and deeper cut tracks that they have added to their rotation over the last couple of years. The night included takes on fan favorites like “The HIV Song,” “Doctor Rock,” “Waving My Dick in the Wind,” “Voodoo Lady,” “Roses Are Free,” “Bananas & Blow” and “The Mollusk.”

The five-piece act also served up “How High Can You Fly?” for just the 20th time, while Pure Guava’s “I Play It Off Legit” got trotted out for its 17th ever performance. Ween also delivered the fourth ever version of “The Rift,” which was debuted this summer. The biggest surprise of the night came towards the back third of the show as the quartet dusted off “Don’t Laugh (I Love You).” The band had last played the GodWeenSatan: The Oneness exactly one year prior at The Bomb Factory in Dallas.
