In September of 2017, the Zappa Family Trust announced a partnership with hologram production company Eyellusion to launch a Frank Zappa hologram tour. The tour, dubbed “The Bizarre World Of Frank Zappa” was originally slated to take place in 2018 but has now been delayed until 2019. Eyellusion and the Zappa Family Trust today unveiled a promotional video for the tour.

A holographic representation of the late Frank Zappa will “perform” with FZ band alumnus Ray White, Mike Keneally, Scott Thunes, Robert Martin and Ed Mann as well as drummer Joe “Vaultmeister” Travers over the course of the tour. Additional Frank Zappa collaborators Steve Vai, Ian Underwood, Lady Bianca, Napoleon Murphy Brock and Arthur Barrow signed on for guest appearances. Each show is expected to feature “hours of never-before-seen (or heard) Zappa performance footage from the early seventies.”

“The development of the ‘Bizarre World’ has been a herculean undertaking and an extremely emotional journey for me,” said Zappa Family Trust executive and Frank’s son Ahmet Zappa. “Weirdly, it’s also been one of the most creatively satisfying projects that I have ever had the privilege of working on. It’s fascinating to me how into holograms my dad was and it’s unbelievable that we have Frank in his own words talking about it. The fact that we’re now finally able to technologically bring to life the ideas and concepts my father talked about so many years ago is astonishing.” Ahmet went on to reveal the hologram tour will span over 100 dates around the world. Tour dates will be announced in the coming months as per a press release. Watch the promotional video for “The Bizarre World Of Frank Zappa”:
