Blind Boys Of Alabama & Jon Langford Join Yo La Tengo In New York City

The second performance of this year’s 8 Nights Of Hanukkah With Yo La Tengo featured special guests the Blind Boys of Alabama and Jon Langford. The collaborations took place Monday evening at The Bowery Ballroom in New York City.

Following their opening set, Blind Boys Of Alabama joined Yo La Tengo at the onset of their performance on a stripped-down version of “Ohm.” The guest vocal group stuck around for a cover of The Velvet Underground’s “Jesus” and returned at the end of the main set for a gospel-arranged rendition of “More Stars Than There Are In Heaven.”

Langford was brought out for the encore, first adding guitar and vocals to a cover of Lonesome Bob’s “The Plans We Made” and then to Bob Dylan’s “Girl From The North Country.” The co-founding member of The Mekons also led takes on that band’s “Where Were You” and “Hard To Be Human.” Watch audience-shot video Monday’s collaborations below:
