Kacey Musgraves was joined by Coldplay’s Chris Martin during her performance Sunday at the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa. Martin played piano on a rendition of Musgraves’ “Rainbow.”
Other performers participating in yesterday’s celebration honoring what would have been late South African president Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday on July 18, 2018 included Beyonce & Jay-Z, Pharrell, Eddie Vedder, Usher, Femi Kuti, Ed Sheeran and others. Purported incidents of attendees being robbed at gunpoint while leaving the arena began to surface on social media soon after the event ended. Organizers issued the below statement in response:
We are deeply disturbed by the reports of criminal activity against festival guests as they tried to leave the venue last night. The safety of our guests is always paramount and we understand and empathise with their concern and anger. The South African Police has made a statement to request that all victims file reports with them, which we strongly encourage. There will be more details to follow.
