Dave Matthews wrote a post praising Ryley Walker’s The Lillywhite Sessions album of Dave Matthews Band covers. The message shared on Facebook called Walker’s release, “A beautiful new collection.”

Walker recorded The Lillywhite Sessions with Andrew Scott Young and Ryan Jewell. He discussed recording the material from DMB’s unreleased sessions held with producer Steve Lillywhite in 1999 and 2000 with The JamBase Podcast, stating “It was a blast to really dig into those songs. It was the most fun I’ve had – obviously the source material is there, the lyrics and the melodies are there. So we just kind of got to put our own little twist on them, and it was a blast.”

As Pitchfork notes, Matthews and Walker recently met when both musicians were in Montreal for gigs. Matthews’ posted the following message on Facebook:

The first time I heard Ryley’s cover of The Lillywhite Sessions, I was in a record store. I didn’t recognize it. Then I heard the words… It’s much more than a cover record. It’s all its own. A beautiful new collection. A tipped hat, maybe. It stands alone. If you didn’t know what inspired it, it wouldn’t matter. It’s all Ryley Walker and it’s badass. Now I have everything he’s released.
