Dave Matthews Band Busts Out ‘Christmas Song’ In Boston

187

Dave Matthews Band brought their Fall Tour to Boston on Friday for a gig at TD Garden. The jamband stalwarts once again dug into their catalog to liberate a pair of long-shelved tunes that included the return of the seasonally-appropriate “Christmas Song.”

Dave Matthews & Co. got their night in Beantown going with “Everday.” “Funny The Way It Is,” “That Girl Is You” and “Granny” came ahead of the tour debut of “Bartender.” The Busted Stuff track was offered up for just the fifth time since 2015. The 18-song main set featured fan-favorites “Grey Street,” “Say Goodbye,” “Warehouse” and their cover of Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer.” The latter third of the show saw the band dust off “Belly Belly Nice” delivering the Away From The World cut for the first time since September 9, 2016. “The Space Between,” “Lousiana Bayou,” which was revived earlier this year and “Crash” helped close out the frame.

The biggest surprise of the night came when the band returned for their two-song encore. The Charlottesville-act band reached back to their debut for “Christmas Song.” The Remember Two Things track had been sitting on the shelf since June 28, 2014 – a span of 334. Last night’s version was just the second time the holiday-time song had been played since 2012. Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower” brought the evening to an end.
