Electric Gardens Festival Organisers Respond To Backlash Over All-Male Sydney Lineup

197

The organisers of EDM festival Electric Gardens have issued a statement after being called out online over their 2019 Sydney event’s all-male lineup.

The Instagram account Lineups Without Males has pointed out that the event’s Sydney bill doesn’t feature any female acts, with only Asta, Woodes and Thandi Phoenix set to perform as “guests” during producer Set Mo’s set.

Now, in a statement to Music Feeds, organisers say that “Electric Gardens is committed to booking the best electronic talent available for the festival”.

“As it has been well documented previously, male artists heavily outweigh the number of female artists in the industry,” their statement continues.

“Australia is a fiercely competitive market for booking artists and unfortunately some of our favourite female artists including the likes of Honey Dijon, Oona Dahl, The Black Madonna, Nina Kraviz, and Heidi were booked for other events.

“We’re very excited this year’s line-up features local female artists Woodes, Asta and Thandi Phoenix who are performing an exclusive set alongside Set Mo,” they add.

“Tomorrow we’re also thrilled to be announcing hot up and comer Beth Yen as an addition to our main stage along with another four female DJs playing the festival and afterparty.”

Electric Gardens Sydney is set to go down at Sydney’s Centennial Park on Saturday, 26th January, with smaller events happening in Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth.
