Triple J‘s older sister station Double J has handed down its verdict on the best 50 albums released in 2018.

“Every single year, we gush about what an incredible 12 months of music we’ve been blessed to enjoy. And we will continue to do so. Because music is important. Albums are important,” Double J says.

“These 50 meant a lot to us, and there have been many others released in 2018 that we hold dear as well.”

SPOILER ALERT: the number #1 spot was taken out by American indie rockers Parquet Courts and their sixth LP, Wide Awake!.

Explaining their decision, the Double J team write: “this may be Parquet Courts at their best yet”.

“Danger Mouse’s presence in the producer’s chair is no cause for concern… His touch is crisp but gentle,” they add.

“Parquet Courts are one of the best bands in the world right now, and records like Wide Awake! are a welcome reminder that they have no shortage of ideas to ensure they keep their standards high.”

Also featuring in the top 50 were the likes of Oh Pep!’s I Wasn’t Only Thinking About You…, Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Sex and Food, Arctic Monkeys’s Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino, Courtney Barnett’s Tell Me How You Really Feel and Mojo Juju’s Native Tongue.
