On Sunday, Umphrey’s McGee continued New Year’s Run at the Tabernacle in Atlanta. The seven-piece act was joined by Jeff Coffin, Cory Wong and Antwaun Stanley during their two-set that also featured the debut of Jamiroquai’s “Virtual Insanity.”

The prog-jam rockers got the night going with a twenty-minute stretch that saw them pair “1348” with “Seasons.” An expansive take on the old-school favorite “Slacker” followed. Next, the band delivered just the sixth take on “Push & Pull.” The track from it’s you segued straight into fan-favorite “Utopian Fir” that featured a tease of Genesis’ “Misunderstanding” from their 1990 LP Duke. Coffin emerged next as Umphrey’s dusted off “Made To Measure” for the first time since March 18, 2017. The saxophonist remained onstage as Wong joined in on the action. The augmented ensemble delivered their debut of Jamiroquai’s 1996 hit “Virtual Insanity” to close out the opening frame.

The Chicago-based band looked to “Little Gift” to open up the second stanza, it marked just the second time the song had been played in 2018. The Similar Skin cut worked its way into “Ocean Billy” as Umphrey’s dropped in a quote from of Pearl Jam’s “Footstep.” “It Doesn’t Matter,” which was debuted at the beginning of this year followed, as they transitioned back into “Ocean Billy.” The biggest surprise of the night followed as the septet unearthed “Can’t Rock My Dream Face” with the help on Stanley on vocals. The mashup that fuses tunes from The Weeknd, Fleetwood Mac and Michael Jackson was last played as a one-off on Halloween 2015 – a span of 281 shows. Setlist staple “All In Time” brought the set to end.

Umphrey’s McGee served up a seamless extended encore that got going with “The Triple Wide.” Last night’s take saw the band drop a verse of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” in its midst. It was the first time they had revisited the Rumors track since 2013. The evening came to an end with the way it began as they returned to “1348.” Listen to full show audio taped by Don Olker below:
