The 2019 installment of the Newport Folk Festival will be held at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island July 26 – 28, 2019 at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island. Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy is the latest addition to the lineup.
The Newport Folk Festival will partner with each act on the lineup to donate to a music education charity. Newport Festivals Foundation has made a donation in Tweedy’s name to The People’s Music School’s “Greater South Side Band” program in Jeff’s current hometown of Chicago. “This donation will fund a full year of instrument purchases for these young students, giving them the opportunity to reap the benefits of the program,” as per Newport organizers.
Jeff Tweedy, who will perform on the Saturday of the festival, joins a lineup that already includes supergroup Bonny Light Horseman, Mountain Man, Gregory Alan Isakov and If I Had A Song, which will close out the festival and celebrate festival founder Pete Seeger’s 100th birthday. Tickets for next year’s Newport Folk Festival are sold out.
