Jerry Garcia Band members Melvin Seals, Jacklyn LaBranch and Gloria Jones formed the Jerry Garcia Birthday Band with Dead & Company bassist Oteil Burbridge, Ghost Light guitarist Tom Hamilton and drummer Duane Trucks of Widespread Panic for a set at Red Rocks in honor of the late Grateful Dead guitarist’s 75th birthday in August of 2017. The group reunited for a pair of shows this past August in Vail and pro-shot video featuring their rendition of “Deal” has been posted on the Jerry Garcia YouTube channel.
“Deal” is the rare song that was a staple for both the Jerry Garcia Band and the Grateful Dead. Hamilton provides lead vocals and a scorching solo during the version from the Vail shows in August ’18 found below. Next up for the group are a pair of “Like A Road Leading Home: Celebrating Jerry Garcia” shows at The Warfield in San Francisco on January 11 and 12.
