Soul Coughing’s 1994 debut album Ruby Vroom turns 25 in 2019. The indie-rock act’s former lead singer Mike Doughty will mark the occasion by playing the LP in its entirety on a lengthy North American tour.
“Live we turn into a musical super-organism. We’re basically doing a real-time remix of the record at each show” shared Doughty. “It won’t not be a note-for-note performance. I’m very proud of the record we made; it’s the sonic embodiment of lower Manhattan in the early 1990’s. Yet there’s a whole other version of this record that lives in my head. I’m extremely excited to see how it evolves night after night.”
The 30-date run that will see Doughty joined by a cellist, bassist and guitar player, kicks off on February 20 at The Basement in Nashville. Doughty’s Ruby Vroom 25th-anniversary tour includes stops in Atlanta, Asheville, Washington D.C., New York, Boston and Toronto. The celebration will then hit cities across the Midwest ahead of a West Coast leg that begins on March 15 at The Crocodile in Seattle and wraps on March 30 at 3Ten in Austin. A pre-sale is underway via Mike’s website ahead of tickets going on sale to the general public this Friday, December 7 at 10 a.m. local time.
