New York City’s OUTPUT To Close At The Start Of 2019

OUTPUT, one of New York City’s more popular electronic-based dance clubs, will close its doors for good in a few weeks. The venue, located in the rapidly developing neighborhood of Williamsburg, Brooklyn across the street from the Brooklyn Bowl, announced on Tuesday that it will permanently close effective on January 1st, 2019. According to the venue’s announcement shared late Tuesday morning, changes in “social trends” and the ever-growing concert landscape in New York City are the two main reasons for its demise.

“It is that inevitable time of night when the last song has faded and the lights are coming up to signal the end of an epic journey… and just like that – poof – the party is over,” it reads in the lengthy statement shared by the venue’s founders and operators Nicolas Matar, Bo Pittman, and Shawn Schwartz. “This sudden turn of events may seem shocking to many, but for those of us watching from the inside, we have seen the writing on the wall for some time. A confluence of factors contributed to the club’s misfortune; rapidly shifting social trends, unfavorable market conditions and weakening financial outlooks coincided with the simultaneous emergence of multiple existential challenges unique to the club’s circumstances.”

The statement continues in admitting that the only way OUTPUT could survive this period would be as a result of drastic changes implemented from the inner workings of the business. Such changes would “betray the mission on which the brand was founded,” as the team put it, meaning the club owners are choosing to die, rather than adapt.

In all fairness, the entire geo-economic landscape of the north Brooklyn area has experienced drastic shift in recent years with the gentrification of the Williamsburg waterfront and new presence of big businesses like Apple and Whole Foods.

One of the other big factors presumably impacting the decision to close the multi-level club could be the impending shutdown of the city’s L-Train subway line, which is expected to have an inescapable effect on local businesses in the Williamsburg area when it stops running between Brooklyn and Manhattan next spring.

Fans can visit the venue’s website for a schedule of remaining events as 2018.

This isn’t the first time that a beloved New York City concert venue has closed its doors in recent years. The Grateful Dead-themed bar/venue that was known as American Beauty NYC closed its doors for good back on January 1st of this year, primarily as a result of conflicting real estate plans.
