The 2019 GRAMMY Nominations Are Here & They’re Bloody Wild

160

Time to get mad in the comments, because the 2019 GRAMMY nominations have arrived and they’re really bloody random.

As far as the top dog honour of Album of the Year is concerned, five of the eight nominees are women (Cardi B, H.E.R., Janelle Monáe, Brandi Carlile and Kacey Musgraves). The event hasn’t exactly been kind to women in the past, following Recording Academy President Neil Portnow’s comments on female artists earlier this year. The other three AOTY noms went to Drake, Post Malone and the various artists behind the Black Panther soundtrack.

Cardi B, Greta Van Fleet, Lady Gaga, Arctic Monkeys and Post Malone are just a few of the artists that picked up multiple nominations this year, but it is Kendrick Lamar and Drake who lead the charge in 2019 with seven nominations each.

Both Chris Cornell and Mac Miller have been posthumously nominated in 2019, with Miller’s nomination for Best Rap Album being his first ever GRAMMY nod.

As for the Aussies nominated this year, a few homegrown heroes have taken music’s top honour. Master songwriter Sarah Aarons helped pen Zedd’s huge hit ‘The Middle’ and that song has been nominated for both Record and Song of the Year. Keith Urban scored a nomination for Best Country Solo Performance, Melbourne-born Lisa Gerrard is nominated for Best New Age Album as part of Dead Can Dance, and for King & Country have scored a nom for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song.

But by far the biggest wildcard of the Aussie noms, and we mean wild, is loveable larrikin Fisher scoring a Best Dance Recording nomination for his hottest 100 contender ‘Losing It’. The man himself celebrated the only way he knows how: being profane on Instagram.
